Bookstore Descriptions

Parlour Books is a small independent bookshop with an intentionally curated collection of good-as-new books. Woman-owned and operated since its founding in 2022, Parlour Books has become a community hub in the Bywater neighborhood of New Orleans, for locals and tourists alike. Three steps to access entrance.

Frenchmen Art & Books has been open since 1978 at the same corner location. Some folks compare Frenchmen to City Lights Books in San Francisco, but we’re not sure about that. Please let us know your thoughts. Slight bump at entrance; aisles large enough for wheelchair.

Community Book Center, a literary and cultural hub founded in 1983 is a  gathering place, that host meetings, book signings, children and youth programs, book clubs and other special events. CBC specializes in African centered books, art and gifts by with and emphasis on children's literature. Fully accessible.

Blue Cypress Books is a small indie bookstore specializing in both high-quality secondhand books and select new publications. We host local authors, jubilant book clubs, and our shop cat has a cult following. Would love to see y'all and show off our little (medium-sized) shop! First floor is accessible including restroom. Access to second floor is staircase only.

Octavia Books is a newly expanded 100 year old neighborhood corner commercial building. Fully accessible.

Tubby & Coo's Traveling Book Shop is a queer-owned, decentralized bookstore focused on uplifting underrepresented voices. We create and curate pocket bookstores inside inclusive spaces. We have two locations, and the one you'll visit is inside of The Good Shop, a retail space for social good. Fully accessible.

Two Fish Books is a small independent, woman-owned bookstore nestled inside Cafe Aquarius in Chalmette, LA, selling used and new books and various sidelines.  Owned and operated by retired teachers, Ann Costanza and Gail Calato, we enjoy hosting local authors for book readings and signings. Fully accessible with limited store space.

Baldwin & Co., endorsed by Oprah's Book Club; featured in the NY Times as one of the Must Visit Places in New Orleans; featured on the TODAY Show as the preeminent bookstore changing the landscape of literacy. Inspired by James Baldwin, we use books to combat racism that underlies inequity. Fully ADA accessible.

Recently renovated, The Garden District Book Shop is committed to maintaining our 43 year legacy as New Orleans’ neighborhood bookshop. Fully ADA accessible.
