The Affinity Group Meetups are dedicated spaces reserved for booksellers, publishing staff, and authors who identify as members of the Black, BIPOC, Hispanic/Latina/o/x/Chicana/o/x, AAPI, Indigenous, LGBTQIA2S+, Disability, and/or Neurodiverse bookselling communities to gather for community, support, resources, and networking. These spaces are not open to press or media representatives. Affinity Group members are welcome to utilize these spaces in addition to and alongside all other social spaces during the conference.

The Quiet Room is intended to provide a quiet, calm space where attendees can spend time away from noise, bright light, and other stimuli of conference spaces. Put your feet up and relax. This space is not available for conversations or meetings.

The Interfaith Prayer & Meditation Room welcomes all faiths and beliefs as a peaceful place for meditation, worship, and reflection. This room has space for attendees to sit, kneel, or set out prayer mats. This space is not available for meetings, but light conversation or worship in accordance with attendee religious and spiritual practices is welcome. 

12-Step Meetings — C127, Level 1, OCC

A morning 12-Step Meeting is held each day at 7:00 am. All in recovery are welcome. A schedule of local meetings can also be found at the Portland Area Alcoholics Anonymous.

ABA is a non-profit trade association. In a trade association, members help run the organization by participating on councils and serving on the Board of Directors. These are all voluntary and unpaid positions. Member bookstore owners and booksellers who work in member stores may also participate in education as panelists or speakers. All member panelists are paid a $100 honorarium. This rate is comparable with market rate in the book industry and among trade associations. Council members and Board members are also comped registration, travel and hotel for some Institutes as are scholarship recipients; all bookstore owners and booksellers who work in a member store are eligible to apply for scholarships. Publishers support authors appearing at Children's Institute, and training companies that facilitate education are paid by ABA.
